A Central Platform for Quality 4.0

Gerresheimer Medical Systems has opted for GUARDUS MES

Press Release - 3 July 2017

High quality standards as well as an agile innovation culture represent the fundamental pillars of the value system of the Gerresheimer Group. This is the reason why the leading global partner to the pharma and healthcare industry has decided to modernise its software fundament regarding the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) in the segment of medical systems. The target: A highly flexible, integrative shop floor platform supports all the tasks in quality and production management forming the backbone of the coming Industry 4.0 projects. In this context, a central selection criterion was the uncomplicated adaptation of the software solution to the individual structures and processes by the IT department of the group. After an intensive evaluation phase, the selected software was the MES of the company in Ulm, GUARDUS Solutions AG. However, the main factors of decision were not only the flexibility and functional excellence of the application, but also the management team, which convinced through its entrepreneurial stance. “A very clear user decision and the possibility to adapt the system by ourselves made us opt for GUARDUS. Moreover, we liked the management of GUARDUS and we are happy to collaborate as partners in the next ten years”, said Salim Siddiqi, Global Senior Director IT Plastics & Devices at the Gerresheimer Regensburg GmbH.

The decision for the system was made in November 2016, and since January, the first workshops have already been well underway. On the basis of an agile project proceeding, the old shop floor IT will be gradually replaced by the GUARDUS MES in all of the six plants of the global player. A so-called master template defines all of the work processes in quality and production management such as production planning, production inspections accompanying quality, connection to measuring equipment and production facilities as well as maintenance, which should be supported and controlled by the new MES. The functional range will be supplemented by a close SAP integration as well as performance indicators reporting. “It is already on the horizon today that the sales promises made previously will be fulfilled, which, of course, make us very happy. Thus, nothing can impede an optimum support of the manufacturing processes as well as of a flexible and quick adaptation of the system to the new demands of Industry 4.0”, continues Siddiqi.
