Nowadays, there is hardly a discussion about the IT landscape of a manufacturing organisation which could be imagined without approaching the topic Manufacturing Execution Systems. However, even if the topic is on everybody’s lips, it is still difficult to offer a clear description of the MES concept.

German Engineering Association (VDMA)

This is the reason why the DIN work group “AK3” within the standardisation commission NA 060-30-05 has engaged in the task to minutely examine the topic relating to the MES. Both complementary providers and competitors have joined forces to issue an international standardisation and bring it to the market in a transparent way. The head of the DIN work group is Andreas Kirsch, member of the board of directors of Carl Zeiss MES Solutions GmbH . Since November 2007, Carl Zeiss MES Solutions GmbH has continued to develop its great commitment within the VDMA. The software manufacturer is now an official member of the German Engineering Association, one of the most important industrial associations in Europe with one of the strongest memberships. Important information!
An important milestone of the DIN work group is the up-to-date standardisation of the technical MES performance indicators. The results have been recently described by the VDMA in the standardisation sheet 66412 Part 1 that, in the meanwhile, was published by the publishing house Beuth Verlag. This standardisation sheet represents a clear basis for the international standardisation of the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of Manufacturing Execution Systems. Further information: www.beuth.de
